You will need to launch Personal Hotspot if you want to use internet via your iPhone and iPad. iOS system will generate random password when you turn it on. But the researchers of Erlangen University of Germany have found the law of the random password generation, that is the combination of simple English words and numbers. The random password could be fore-casted and researchers are able to crack the password in one minute.

Three researchers detail how they figure out the law of the hotspot password. There are about 52500 entries in Apple's word list , so initially it takes about 50 minutes to crack the hotspot. After the WiFi connection is found, the researchers adopt AMD Radeon HD 6990 GPU to test the word and number combinations. Then they found that only a small part of the word list was used. With four AMD Radeon HD 6990 GPU cluster, iOS-generated hotspot password could be cracked  down in just 50 minutes.

The researchers criticize Apple's password generation system is too weak. Mobile hotspot password should be composed of completely random combination of numbers, letters and special characters. Compared to Apple's password generation system, Microsoft and other companies seem to adopt a safer way. The default moma of Windows Phone 8 system is utilizing a real eight-number random figure. To avoid a weak password, iOS user should have a choice for a sequence of real random number and letter combination.
